About Physical Therapy
What will happen on my first visit?
You will meet your physical therapist who will
take a history of your problem and then perform
an evaluation. The therapist will determine a
"plan of care" that will guide your rehabilitation
program. You will start your program on your
first visit and then schedule additional visits
- generally two to three a week for two to four
weeks. The number of visits required will depend
on your doctors referral instructions, your therapist's
plan of care and authorizations made by your insurance
company.
Who are physical therapists?
A key partner in your overall health and wellness,
physical therapists (PT's) are experts of movement
and function and are professionally educated at
a university level. They have all passed state
boards and been licensed by the State in which
they practice.
What is physical therapy?
Physical therapy is the application of various
techniques to restore optimum function and can
include: education; manual therapy such as hands-on
stretching and joint mobilization; the use of
physical modalities to reduce pain and inflammation
such as ultrasound; and therapeutic exercises
to develop strength and endurance, range of motion
and flexibility.
Do you need to see a physical therapist?
Some of the more common reasons we see patients include:
- Care after orthopedic surgery
- Muscle strains and sprains
- Over-use syndromes like carpal tunnel
- Low back and neck pain
- Joint injuries or chronic conditions of the knee, hip,
shoulder and wrist
Do you need a doctor's prescription?
At Physical Therapy Complete,
we like to work with your doctor and encourage
you to visit your doctor and obtain a prescription
for therapy if indicated. Most insurance companies require a referral from a physician for physical therapy treatment. Patients can choose where to go for therapy – just call us and we will check your therapy benefits and/or help you find a doctor for your condition. Call
us if you have any questions.
